The Rattlesnake, A Cheese That Bites Back

I’ve been fan-girling Deer Creek creamery for a few years now. They aptly refer to themselves as “cheese hotrodders,” and it fits, given that their alchemy of Dairy + Daring flavors = Other cheesemakers eating their dust.

This exceptionally hot summer cries out for food that makes sweating fun, and Deer Creek’s habañero and Cuervo Gold-infused cheddar, The Rattlesnake, has got you covered there. Hotrodder Chris Gentine (Deer Creek’s founder and avowed tequila lover) spent about a year developing this Cheese That Bites Back, and his dedication has paid off in a beautiful balance of sweet and venomous.

The Rattlesnake opens with the allure of smooth tequila, then brings the mellow creaminess of fine medium cheddar. Then, when it’s got you all cozy, the habañero strikes from out of nowhere! Rattlesnake, indeed. This stuff is truly delicious.

It’s a no-brainer to pair it with an icy margarita, but it’s also amazing with fruity sangria, Mexican beer, and yes, iced coffee! Deer Creek suggests chasing it with tequila shots rimmed with cinnamon and a slice of orange, and we say “Cheers!” to that.

Serve it alongside tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, and instantly become barbecue royalty by melting it over grilled corn on the cob. Let it elevate your next plate of nachos into the stratosphere. Then, finish off with a bite or two of dark chocolate.
