Caramelized Onions Burger

 

This Caramelized Onion Burger is bringing the flavor. Made with local Desert Mountain Ground Beef and topped with sweet, golden onions—all ingredients from the Boise Co-op!

Ingredients:

Burgers:

  • 2 lb Desert Mountain ground beef

  • 4 brioche buns sliced and grilled

  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, grated

  • parsley, finely chopped

  • salt and pepper

  • arugula

Caramelized Onions:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • ½ teaspoon ground thyme

  • 1 bay leaf

  • ½ cup beef or chicken broth

  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • salt and pepper

Instructions:

Caramelized Onions:

  • In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat.

  • Add sliced onions, salt, pepper, thyme, and bay leaf. Sauté for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.

  • Stir in broth, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Remove from the heat and keep warm.

Burger Patties:

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper.

  • Form into four patties, making the center slightly thinner.

  • Grill or cook in a skillet for about 5 minutes per side, adding cheese on top during the last minute.

Assembling the Burger:

  • Place a patty on each bottom bun.

  • Top with caramelized onions and fresh arugula.

  • Add the top bun and enjoy!
