David’s Pick: 2017 Shania Rosé, $22.00, 3 liter

This value priced rosé in a convenient bag-in-the-box format is from Bodegas Juan Gil. The Gil family has been producing wine in Spain’s Jumilla wine region for over 100 years. Located in the southeast corner of Spain, the Jumilla’s hot summers and cold winters are somewhat moderated by the influence of the nearby Mediterranean. Considering the climate and the grape varieties (Syrah and Tempranillo) this is a surprisingly smooth and balanced rosé, fruit forward with a refreshing finish. The flavors are a mix of melon, strawberry and soft cherry, backed by light citrus with just a touch of herb. Just the thing you want waiting in the fridge for that first, crisp, cold glass of rosé after a day at work. At the equivalent of $5.50 a bottle, it’s a no brainer, best buy.
