After the holidays, I like to look for good value wines, as my pocketbook has been depleted. Here is one of my standbys, always a good wine, every vintage. The Cha-teau de Saint Cosme is located north of the village of Gigondas, and is the oldest estate in the region. Though a southern Rhône wine, Syrah is the grape of choice here (rather than the more typical Grenache blend). The 2014 vintage has lots of ripe fruit, red currant and red berry, balanced by a freshness on the mid-palate. The finish is long and sumptuous. Definitely one to stock up on.
