The Goriška Brda zone in western Slovenia has a long viticultural history dating back to the 5th century BC when Celtic tribes first started working with grapes. The Štekar family founded their winery in 1985 and became certified organic in 2006. They ferment their Malvasia in 2000 liter neutral acacia barrels, aging it for 12 months in the same wood. The result is an intensely aromatic wine filled with bright, floral white fruit with touches of herb. It’s just as rich on the palate, with ripe peach, papaya and apricot flavors beautifully balanced by crisp acidity. The mineral laced finish is long and lively.
