Redentore is a second label for the prestigious De Stefani Estate. They have been making wines in the Veneto since the late 1800s. Alessandro De Stefani is a 4th generation winemaker. All of their wines are organic, and Alessandro never uses sulfites during vinification. Naturally occurring yeasts are always used and this particular wine is made from an indigenous grape variety called Refosco. Ales-sandro is a very confident and capable winemaker—this becomes obvious when tasting his wines. I noticed that even though he makes them in a very natural way, the wines are still very clean and pure. This Refosco is full-bodied with soft tannins. I detect lots of refreshing, juicy fruit along with some salinity and a pronounced hit of sandalwood and minerality on the long finish. At 12.5 percent alcohol the wine is very happy with food, but it is fantastic on its own as well. This bottle is a great value and should not be missed.
