Fort George Bourbon Barrel Cavatica Stout - Meets or exceeds expectations for the style - bourbon and dark malts greet the nose, revealing some sharp barrel, chocolate and vanilla on the palate; finishes roasty and creamy with good length.
Full Sail Brewmasters Reserve Barrel Aged Imperial Stout 2015 - No tasting notes yet, but the previous two vintages were excellent and worthy of both snifter and cellar.
Breakside Brewing Salted Caramel Stout - This satisfying after-dinner bottle shows nice balance: not too sweet, nor too heavy, nor too salty - serve at cellar temp with or without your favorite dessert - also would make killer beer ice cream if that's the intention.
Oakshire Perfect Storm Double IPA - Generous NW-hop additions pair with an ample and streamlined malt bill for delicious results - drink now and for the next few weeks for full aromatic impact.
Sierra Nevada Harvest Single Hop IPA - Idaho 7 - First series release for 2015 features the Idaho 7 hop, an as-yet-unnamed variety grown about 35 minutes west of us in the Greenleaf/Wilder area; no tasting notes yet, but I hope to remedy that situation this week.
Double Mountain Molten Lava Imperial IPA - Hop Lava's big brother makes its seasonal return, and there's nothing small about it; huge, inviting hop aromas welcome the crisp body, wherein more fruity, resinous hops come out to play. Some alcohol notes dance among the hops, and bitterness lingers on the finish. Overall, it's a well-made example of a Northwestern hop bomb and should appeal to those that enjoy such.
Lagunitas Olde Gnarleywine 2015 - It feels like it's been a few years since last we saw this, but I recall rich malts, sticky citrus and piney hops, and alcohol - and that a bomber runs <$5... sold!
Oskar Blues GUBNA Imperial IPA - Though a touch sweet, with rye malt adding interest, the GUBNA focuses squarely on the hops, and there's plenty on which to focus. And it's in a can... and it's going to be 70 degrees today... 'nuff said.
Firestone Walker cans now available: the award-winning trio of Pivo Pils, Easy Jack, and Union Jack are all now available in 6-pk cans... let the recycling begin
Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA - Pinner most notably references the dank hop aromatics that escape upon opening; throwback is neither retro nor vintage, it's literally throwing these back quite easily as I expect this session IPA to become a fan favorite. Sip, sip, give.
For the cellar...
Both of the aforementioned barrel-aged imperial stouts will gain with some cellar time: buy two bottles - one for now, one for later
From the cellar...
